Phonido

For teachers

The Phonido Teacher Academy

Every teacher is certified, or training towards it. The syllabus is written against the IDA standards, and every certificate can be checked.

Four stages

From trainee to mentor

The rule is simple: no certificate, no solo teaching.

A trainee may observe, prepare and assist. The first time someone teaches a child Phonido, they have already passed the practicum.

  1. Trainee

Learning the method. May observe, prepare and assist.

  2. Certified

Has passed the practicum and the exam, and may teach children Phonido.

  3. Renewed

  4. Mentor

How a teacher is certified

  • 10modules, taught in order
  • 36taught hours
  • 3teach-backs in the practicum
  • 60scenario questions in the exam

The practicum

Three teach-backs, each observed against a 20-behaviour fidelity rubric. Each task allows one redo.

The exam

Sixty scenario questions. Both the practicum and the exam are required, and only a head-office coordinator signs off.

Certificates you can check

Every certificate has its own code. Anyone, a school or a parent, can check it at phonido.com/verify.

Written against the IDA standards

The Academy syllabus is written against the IDA standards for teaching reading.

In development

The Phonido Diploma

A longer diploma is on the way

The Professional Diploma is in development. It is not open yet, and we will say more when it is.
